Description
Paulo Mendes da Rocha is a living legend of contemporary architecture. His work is associated with the "São Paulo school of Brutalist architecture". Brutalism refers to raw concrete and simple forms. He creates works that are both sincere and daring, imaginative and unexpected, and always leaves an important place for the social dimension in his art.
The architect is a man with a sincere interest in humanity. His mission is to create the most suitable and sustainable habitat possible. In this sense, Paulo Mendes da Rocha is a modernist, and nothing distracts him from his vision of a better future.
His many awards include the Pritzker Prize in 2006 and the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2016.
A cult armchair by Paulo Mendes da Rocha, winner of the 2006 Pritzker Architecture Prize. Extremely comfortable, the Paulistano is a timelessly elegant design classic.
It has been part of the permanent collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) since 2007.
