Description
Andersen & Voll's Pavilion chair echoes its own ability to endure. Here, the challenge was to design a stackable chair used for mass seating in that iconic multipurpose venue, the Langelinie Pavilion. Torbjørn Anderssen and Espen Voll wanted to combine early modernism with new modernism. "Often, tube chairs are built with fixed angles," Anderssen notes. "We wanted a freer form of expression and explored the idea of curved tubes combined with curved plywood." "The Pavilion chair has an airy feel, with slender arms and legs that give it a light appearance," Voll explains, "A softer aesthetic in an all-curved silhouette that's almost not there anymore." The effect is lyrical, graceful and poetic. Almost like a knotted rope that has come undone.
